Hey Ben,

This is Shane Patterson. My wife and I visited your fellowship months back. I read your blog every now and then to see what's going on. You r so correct in the plurality of leadership part of your post (as well as other things). It's a wonderful thing that God setup in his Church. So different from the world. I admire u guys for trying to live that out.

That's good. Yes, it is sad. Anytime a church believes they have the best representation of the Body there will be this abuse of people, I think. And yes, God has shown me many things which I learned in the second church, and I'm very, very thankful. Perhaps someday I'll have a chance to tell them (again, I sent several things that went unanswered) how grateful I am. Thank you so much! Praying, praying, praying.

Wow, good question. I didn't get into it in the post, but you will have the situations where you do all that you can (explain that this is the leading and calling of the Lord and bless and affirm them as you leave) and the response is continued negativity and conflict. That is sad to me, but I guess my advice in that situation would be first, be humble enough to listen to them and see if they are bringing up any issues the Lord would have you address. And second, if sure of the Lord's direction still, you can only control being at peace from your side. Be willing to reconcile and talk again to them in the future when they are ready to have that conversation. And pray for them.

Great post. You're right that it's "rare" that a fellowship like yours allows people to leave well. What a blessing! I've left two churches I really loved; the first did allow me to leave well (and we're still friends) and the second did not. Although I have no bitterness toward the second, I'm heart-broken at the loss of friends. It makes a huge difference when the church is not willing to be like yours and allow people to leave well. What advice do you have for a me and for a church that is not like yours? Thanks.
